The Jordanian Royal Courts: Preparations for Amman Design Week

In September, the heart of the capital of the kingdom of Jordan will dance for a week to the rhythm of design. Queen Rania supports this new event, simply known as Amman Design Week, which aims to become an annual event. On March 30th, she came to check on the progress of this project and in particular the places where it will be deployed.

The Jordanian Royal Courts: Congrats to HRH Princess Muna on the new appointment

Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al Hussein has been appointed as a Commissioner in the High-Level Commission on Health Employment and Economic Growth.

HRH Princess Muna has been named to take part in this important Commission, which is co-chaired by France President Francois Hollande and South African President Jacob Zuma, based on her capacity as a world-renowned figure in the fields of global health and social development. She is also a well-known advocate of programs that support the Sustainable Development Goals, with an emphasis on alleviating poverty, promoting maternal and child health and strengthening the healthcare workforce.

As a World Health Organisation (WHO) Patron for Nursing and Midwifery in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, Vice President of the Royal College of Nursing of the United Kingdom and an Honorary Adviser for WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing Development in Jordan, as well as a recipient of several honorary doctoral degrees and fellowships and a number of international awards, HRH Princess Muna has addressed several health for a on the importance of empowering the health workforce globally.

Back in Jordan where her son King Abdullah II is the monarch, she helped found the Princess Muna College of Nursing in 1962 and is the founder of the Jordanian Nursing Council, which was established in 2002, as part of her early commitments to the provision of quality nursing and the advancement of nursing services, practice and education.

Facts:
Princess Muna al-Hussein (born Antoinette Avril Gardiner;on 25 April 1941) is the mother of King Abdullah II of Jordan. She was the second wife of the late King Hussein, the late king of Jordan. She is English by birth but in keeping with Islamic culture, she was renamed Muna al-Hussein upon her marriage. She met her ex-husband on the set of a movie of Lawrence of Arabia where she was working as secretarial assistant. Together they had four children: Abdullah (born 1962; now King Abdullah II of Jordan); Feisal (born 1963) and twins Princess Aisha and Princess Zein (born 1968).

The Jordanian Royal Courts: Princess Basma given a briefing on charity initiatives

HRH Princess Basma was out in in the Jordanian capital Amman east of the city and Madaba on March 30th checking on two charitable initiatives.

The Jordanian Royal Courts: Visit from UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon

 Early in the day, Her Majesty received in audience Turkish Prime Minister’s wife Mrs. Sare Davutoglu at the Royal Palace . During the meeting, Queen Rania and Mrs. Davutoglu discussed a number of matters and areas of mutual interest, including issues of particular importance to Her Majesty, such as education advancement, child rights, and community empowerment in Jordan.

The Jordan Royal Courts: A week with Their Majesty

On the occasion of Mother’s Day in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan which was celebrated on Monday March 21st 2016, Queen Rania visited children who currently reside at Dar Al Aman, The Jordan River Foundation’s (JRF) Child Safety Center. The center was established in 2000 to temporarily provide protection for child victims of abuse. School-aged children are usually enrolled at public schools near the center, and those under the age of six benefit from specialized early childhood development programs at the center.

This Wednesday March 23rd, Queen Rania of Jordan headed for the border town of Ramtha, in the extreme northwest of the country, to meet with refugees and officials of charities. Her trip included the visit of Protection Center and empowerment of women which deals with emergency situations of gender violence suffered by the Syrian refugees, as well as a health clinic, both run by the International Rescue Committee ( IRC).

Queen of Jordan has also talked with the leaders of five Jordanian charitable organizations working in the region to support local residents. Which are facing this population intake hanging over their infrastructure (nearly a third of the inhabitants of Ramtha are currently Syrian refugees) and unemployment caused by the removal of borders and free trade with neighboring Syria.

A long advocate committed to Women rights, Queen Rania of Jordan has not failed to mark on Tuesday the International Day of Women's Rights. She met with Jordanian female leaders.

On March 8th, Rania had arranged a meeting in Amman with over one hundred influential Jordanian and members of the local Women's World network IWF (International Women's Forum). Queen of Jordan, who spoke at the meeting, concluded it by saying "women should not feel discouraged to pursue their dreams, even if they fail to meet certain challenges," said in a communicate. Which adds that "urged them not to lose faith" and "describes the failure as an opportunity to learn and grow. It also called on the participants to use their leadership positions to help other women and expanding the local network IWF.À

The Jordanian Royal Courts: King Abdullah II meets with U.S President Obama

His Majesty King Abdullah II accompanied by HRH Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah on Wednesday, held a summit meeting with U.S. President, Barack Obama, that dealt with global efforts to fight terrorism and extremism in the Middle East and the world, the latest developments in Syria and efforts to revive peacemaking between the Palestinians and Israelis.

The meeting also discussed ways to cement the strategic relationship between Jordan and the United States.

The Jordanian Royal Courts: Queen Rania visits Hashemite University

Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah launched the Hashemite University’s nursery on Wednesday, and toured several other facilities on campus that reflect the university’s commitment to social progress and innovation.

For the visit, Queen Rania went with a retro look with Chloé plaid flared trousers belted with a green belt, green embroidered shit, white jacket stopped by Shoman Social Work Library and spoke with students involved in extracurricular activities. She said the Hashemite University is a role model to look up to, hoping other institutions would follow suit and adopt creative ways to advance their education programs.  She also visited The Clinical Skills Education and Testing Center (CSETC). The center’s manager, Dr. Ayman Al Sharaa, briefed Her Majesty in the presence of medical students on the High-Fidelity Manikin, which is an advanced human patient simulator.

She recognized the university as a pioneer in creating an environment that supports innovation despite its lack of resources and the challenging times. And later commended the institution’s strong management, faculty and student body on their commitment to education, and described it as one that will go down in history.

Her Majesty also visited the Princess Iman Bint Abdullah II Family and Childhood Library, where she explored the Childhood Education and Special Education Divisions and programs at the Queen Rania Faculty for Childhood.

At the end of her visit, Professor Kamal Bani Hani presented Her Majesty with a plaque honoring her support for education and innovation.

The Jordanian and Dubai Royal Courts: Queen Rania attend Global Women’s Forum in Dubai

Her Majesty Queen Rania is in Dubai to attend The Global Women’s Forum. Also attending the forum were His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai and his son His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

Her Majesty spoke an opening keynote speech Forum where she challenged an audience of international leaders to break inherited molds that have been imposed on women, and pursue innovation in improving their standing, during the forum she was also awarded the Mohammed Bin Rashid Medal of Honor for Women. A medal to personally honor conceived and celebrate leading women for their achievements by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai,

The award was given in recognition of Queen Rania’s invaluable impact as a champion for women's empowerment across the Arab Region. She was presented the award by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.

In her speech, she said that "a society’s expectations of women directly reflect its confidence in their abilities and potential." and explained that the infiltration of Arab societies by extremist ideologies requires an exceptional urgency for change and demands leaps in progress. "We need to actively fight currents that are trying to throw us centuries behind, Many Arab women have faced so many tragedies that their lives have been turned around into worst case scenarios," she added.

In addition to her speech she referred to the growing and complicated problems of the Arab World, shee stated that "we are stuck hovering over the same ground, prevented by the winds of conflicts, inherited boundaries, and backward ideologies." and added that "a powerful push forward" was necessary. She explained that modern technology can help transform education, create jobs, and overcome the barriers women face. "We have tools that give women a louder voice, and a wider space to participate and advocate," Queen Rania said. She underlined the importance of using creative skills, unconventional solutions, and new approaches to prompt quick and lasting change.

Queen Rania also highlighted Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak’s role in pushing the women of her country to excel in many sectors. She added that Sheikha Fatima became "a role model for women by raising the bar and encouraging them to look beyond boundaries."

In the conclusion of her speech, the Queen underscored the Arab World’s dire need to catch up with global trends. She said this would "require strong, knowledgeable, and ambitious women that can help our societies stand strong again and help us realize our full potential."

Other speakers at the opening of the forum included Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nayhan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, and Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi, President of the UAE Federal National Council.
