The Dutch Royal Couple visit to the War museum

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands was very moved this Wednesday, while King Willem-Alexander and herself were gathering at the Buchenwald camp.

It was certainly the highlight of the second day of their official visit to Germany. This Wednesday, February 8th 2017, Their Majesties visited the Buchenwald concentration camp near Weimar. More than 280,000 people from more than 50 countries, including from the Netherlands, were detained there, and more than 56,000 people died under torture, exhaustion or medical experiments during the Second World War. After a lunch with Bodo Ramelow, the Thuringian Minister-President, the Dutch royal couple joined Jena for a meeting with members of German and Dutch high-tech companies, their robots of tomorrow and students. The day ended with a German-Dutch trade dinner in Leipzig.
